First birthday for the twins of a mother we helped

By Brian Jenkins (Quebec Life Coalition)
40 Days for Life
The 40-day prayer vigil to end of abortion ended this past Sunday, April 13. Between ten and twelve people showed up for the 3 p.m. conclusion. At that time, we prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy on the streets of Montreal. The group then moved to the chapel across the street where we spent thirty minutes in Eucharistic Adoration before closing with a time of fraternity at a local restaurant.
A few of the vigil highlights include: an increase in volunteers to pray at the vigil downtown location, more occurrences in pro-life apologetics, and meeting with men and women grieving a past abortion or miscarriage.
Enceinte? Inquiète?
In 2024, we were blessed to help between four and five women carry their child to term. Now in 2025, they are celebrating the one-year anniversary of these children. I’ve been invited to two birthday parties. Two of the women we've helped gave birth to twins, one set is pictured below.

🙏 Virtual Meeting on Public Prayer Ban Proposal
We recently held a virtual meeting with a representative from the Quebec Secretariat for Democratic Institutions Reform, Access to Information and Secularism, led by Minister Jean-François Roberge.
Alongside our allies from Citizen Go and UVVC (United Voice for Christian Values), we expressed our serious concern over Premier François Legault’s pre-Christmas proposal to ban public prayer.
We also announced our plan to deliver a petition opposing this ban—signed by over 12,000 Canadians—to Minister Roberge’s office on May 30, the day before our March for Life.

How to Vote from a Pro-Life Perspective
The federal election campaign is in full swing. To help you make an informed and faithful choice, Quebec Life Coalition has prepared a guide titled:
👉 “How to Vote from a Pro-Life Perspective”
I encourage you to read it carefully—and above all, to share it with your friends and family.
Mark Carney: A Dangerously Alluring Figure
By a strange herd effect—and if polls are to be believed—Mark Carney seems to have won over the hearts of many Canadians. Yet for those of us who cherish faith, family, and life, this momentum is a serious cause for concern.
Until recently, Carney held three passports (Irish, British, and Canadian). This alone raises the question: does he embody the kind of patriotism Canada needs to navigate the coming times? More importantly, he does not uphold the Christian values essential to our personal and national salvation.
Time and again, Carney has betrayed his Catholic faith by openly supporting abortion and LGBT ideology—as shown in this article.
Jack Fonseca of Campaign Life Coalition even warns that Carney could be worse than Justin Trudeau. How did we get so close to this cliff’s edge? It is urgent that we turn around now—for the sake of our country, our families, and our faith.
The Battle Continues, Regardless of Who Leads Next
No matter who becomes our next Prime Minister, we must continue to proclaim the Gospel of Life.
But a dangerous threat looms: a federal pre-budget committee has recommended revoking charitable status from religious organizations whose moral teachings do not align with so-called "modern standards." If implemented, this measure would force many Christian ministries to close their doors.
If you haven’t already, we urge you to sign and share our petition to protect the freedom of believers in Canada:

Federal Election 2025: How to Vote from a Pro-Life Perspective

Photo: Freepik
As the 2025 Canadian federal elections approach, voters who care deeply about promoting a Culture of Life often wonder how they should cast their votes. The decision depends not only on the individual positions of the candidates but also on those of their parties and their leaders. Quebec Life Coalition offers here an overview of the parties and their leaders regarding key issues related to faith, family, and life, as well as some general recommendations on voting strategies.
Positions of Main Federal Parties and Leaders
Liberal Party of Canada (Mark Carney)
Under the leadership of Mark Carney, the Liberal Party actively promotes abortion, which Carney has called a "fundamental right." The Liberal Party also supports euthanasia and strongly promotes LGBT ideology, including gender ideology. The party systematically excludes all pro-life candidates and regularly opposes freedom of conscience and religion, notably through restrictive legislation on freedom of speech.
Conservative Party of Canada (Pierre Poilievre)
Under Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative Party tolerates the presence of pro-life candidates, though its leader has stated he does not intend to introduce legislation against abortion. However, the party remains the only major party to allow its MPs free votes on moral issues, which, in theory, makes possible the adoption of pro-life and pro-family measures. Poilievre holds a moderate stance on euthanasia and opposes certain extreme manifestations of gender ideology, especially as they affect children.

Mark Carney.

Last Sunday, after attending Catholic Mass, Prime Minister Mark Carney was asked by a reporter if he “explicitly support[s] a woman’s right to choose?” In the lead up to the question, the reporter had observed that Mr. Carney was a “practicing Catholic who went to Church” earlier in the morning.
Carney, practically tripping over his words in his eagerness to answer the question, replied: “I absolutely support a woman’s right to choose, unreservedly, and will defend it as the Liberal Party has defended it – proudly and consistently.”
Yes, horrifically, Carney, a practicing Catholic, supports the barbaric slaughtering of the weakest and most vulnerable among us – the preborn child.
He supports this even though Catholic teaching makes it clear that killing preborn children is a grave moral evil.
"Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion," states the Catechism of the Catholic Church. "This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
Deeply troubling double-speak
Thanks to your generosity over the past three weeks, we have reached our $15,000 goal for our Lenten fundraising campaign. From the bottom of my heart — thank you! Your support allows us to continue defending and promoting the Christian faith, the natural family, and human life from conception to natural death, even in a political and cultural climate often hostile to these fundamental truths.
One of the most concerning developments in recent days is the candidacy of Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada. Carney publicly identifies as a practising Catholic, yet he has declared himself to be “absolutely” in favour of abortion — without reservation. In his own words:
“I absolutely support a woman’s right to choose, without reservation, and I will defend it just as the Liberal Party has: with pride and consistency.”
This kind of double-speak — claiming to be Catholic while defending abortion — is deeply troubling and, as Campaign Life Coalition recently stated, scandalous. Let us also not forget that Carney was among the first to call for a forceful crackdown on the 2022 Freedom Convoy, describing the protesters as seditious in a Globe and Mail op-ed.
In this uncertain election season, as we await to see who will become Canada’s next Prime Minister, we must act now to protect our churches and charitable organizations. A critical petition is underway to oppose the very real threat of revoking charitable status for religious groups. If you haven’t already signed it, please do so today. The link is below:
Finally, a reminder that the Marches for Life are fast approaching:
- National March for Life in Ottawa: Thursday, May 8, 2025 (Website)
- Quebec March for Life in Quebec City: Saturday, May 31, 2025 (Website)
Thank you again for your faithful support. Together, and by God’s grace, we will continue to shine the light of truth and defend the most vulnerable among us.

For Life,

Georges Buscemi

1 reaction Read moreWhile politicians debate, real life-and-death issues play out
A Canadian federal election has just been called, and we are all meant to stay riveted to the political drama that will unfold in the coming weeks. But while politicians debate and media outlets speculate, real life-and-death issues continue to play out quietly and without fanfare — especially here at the 40 Days for Life vigil in Montreal.
Every day, we meet women facing crisis pregnancies, families struggling to make ends meet, and even young abortion supporters who need to hear the truth spoken with love. This work is urgent, and it is happening now, regardless of what is trending in the news.
That’s why your support is so vital. So far, we have raised $12,118 toward our $15,000 goal — and we have only five days left to reach it. Thank you to all who have donated already to the Quebec Life Coalition. If you haven’t yet given, please consider helping us reach our goal so we can continue to offer this life-saving witness.
Four Notable Features of This Spring's Vigil
1. Increased Participation
This spring, we’ve witnessed a remarkable increase in participation. More people are joining us at the vigil site to pray, to witness, or simply to talk. At the intersection of Berri and Saint-Catherine Streets, people are committing to regular prayer hours — at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and throughout the afternoon. Others arrive unannounced, including in the final hour of the day. Their presence has brought renewed energy and hope to the vigil.

2. Counter Measures
We’ve also seen the return of abortion supporters, absent in recent years. On two occasions, two young people came with homemade signs to promote abortion. Their presence drew attention — some passers-by reacted with curiosity, others (dishearteningly) with support for their position. One group of older people even stopped to praise them.

We engaged these young people twice, hoping to plant seeds of truth. Though their views remain unchanged for now, we trust that our respectful and compassionate dialogue may bear fruit in time.
3. Helping Women and Families
Despite my daily presence at the vigil site, our outreach to pregnant women and struggling families continues without interruption.
- Désirée, 32 weeks pregnant, recently left a drug treatment program to return to street life with her boyfriend. We are deeply concerned for her and her child. Please pray for them.
- Reginald, a father of two, is launching a small business, and I’m referring clients to help him get started.
- Daniella, a young mother, was able to run errands thanks to a QLC volunteer and me caring for her twins.

- Isabella (Imma) needed baby formula for her twins — we responded that same day with a delivery.
4. Post-Abortion and Reproductive Loss Support
We’ve also supported two women affected by reproductive loss:
- A man who saw our pregnancy support sign contacted us for help after his wife’s miscarriage.
- Another woman, who recently had an abortion, is receiving comfort and help as she begins healing and reintegration into her community.
A Global Effort with Local Impact
Montreal’s 40 Days for Life is part of a worldwide movement. This spring, over 660 vigils are taking place across the globe — mostly in the U.S., but also in 15 to 20 locations across Canada. The winning formula is prayer and fasting, peaceful presence near abortion centres, and public education. Since the first vigil in College Station, Texas, in 2003, this approach has contributed to hundreds of abortion facilities closing and thousands of lives saved.
Here in Montreal, we are present every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Berri and Saint-Catherine Streets, from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday (April 13). Everyone is welcome.
Only 5 Days Left — Help Us Reach $15,000!
With just days remaining in the vigil, we are only $2,882 away from our goal of $15,000. These funds help us continue our prayerful witness, support vulnerable women, and build a culture of life here in Quebec.
Please give today if you can. Every donation makes a difference.

Suicide or Revival? The Choice Is Ours.
In an interview broadcast five days ago, American Vice President J.D. Vance asserted that Europe was "at risk of engaging in civilizational suicide." Whatever you think of the current U.S. vice president, on that point, he's right: low birth rates—due in large part to mass abortion—no-border mass immigration from countries that do not share the values that made Europe great, and Europe's forsaking of Christian culture all point to a future where Europe simply dissolves itself out of existence, like a decaying corpse.
Well, the same can be said for most, if not all, Western countries—including, and most especially, a certain part of Canada called "Quebec." One could say that Quebec already attempted suicide in the 1960s when it underwent the "Quiet Revolution" and cut itself off from its Christian roots. Today, sadly, as its birth rate dwindles and francophones become a minority in la Belle Province, Quebec is doubling down on banning religion from the public square—first by floating a ban on public prayer, then by evicting church groups from government buildings, including city-owned spaces and community centres.
It’s coming to a point where, instead of a Western, Christian society, Quebecers are living in a death-loving, communism-embracing society. Recently, I read a Facebook post from an émigré from Communist Romania who, several years ago, moved to Canada. She openly wondered: "What was the point of moving to Canada, now that we're more communist here than where I fled from?"
We can ask ourselves the same thing in Quebec: what's the point of staying here, when things are getting worse, not better—more communistic, more death-loving? (Quebec is now the world champion of assisted suicide.)
But the answer to the question why stay? is that God has a plan for us. We at QLC believe God wants us here. God is merciful. He doesn't want Quebec—or any other Western society—to perish, but rather to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). He sends forth His spokespeople to show the way out of bondage to sin.
At QLC, we have been pointing the way to faith, family, and life—from conception to natural death—for years. God put us here to be the seeds of renewal. And yes, it can be very hard, because a seed bears no fruit unless it dies (John 12:24).
Every day, the QLC team is doing God's work, under the radar, under the soil, dying to self: Brian prays and witnesses at 40 Days for Life and helps pregnant women in need, Arpad is networking at events or taking notes and asking difficult questions at the UN, and Augustin is covering Quebec and international news from a pro-life, pro-family perspective. These might not be grand geopolitical chess moves—often, these tasks are thankless—but they are the seeds that will grow in God's good time.
And you know what? We are growing.
Whenever we engage in these necessary quarterly fundraisers, we normally struggle to reach our goal—but not so much anymore. The many of you who have given so promptly and generously are showing us that our work is increasingly valued and appreciated. From across the country, and even as far as Africa, people are giving to QLC because they recognize that our fight is their fight. Our message is God's message of love to lost Western societies on the brink of civilizational suicide!
The harvest may not come tomorrow (it will in God's good time), but the ground is being readied for a restoration of the West. If it heeds the call, Quebec—and the rest of the West—instead of committing suicide, will, thanks to God's work through us, be given new life.
This Spring—a time of sacrifice, prayer, and giving for many—thank you for joining us in extending God's mercy to Quebec, Canada, and beyond.
Please give so that we can keep giving, too.

For Life,

Georges Buscemi
President, Quebec Life Coalition

1 reaction Read moreCommission on the Status of Woman 2025, part 1
It has been a couple days since my return from New York. I was at the United Nation as a delegate at the Comission on the Status of Women (CSW).
I am working hard at finishing my UN-related reports, answering e-mails and continuing with the backlog from being away at the UN. Since the Friday reports are fresh in my mind, here is a little summary of three of the events I attended last Friday. There were several hundred events during this first week of CSW, and our team spread out to attend as many of them as possible.

The main UN building's beauty (or lack there of) reflects well the content on what goes on inside as well.
First, I attended an event hosted by the republic of Guinea. That event was focused on gender equality in the workforce and highlighting the advances already made in that field. Charlotte Daffé, the Minister of the promotion of Women, Children and Vulnerable Persons of the Republic of Guinea, revealed a project called Simandou 2040. This project has for goal to highlight key businesswomen who had done an exceptional job in their own field. Other ministers and delegates spoke on related issues. For example, in education, the distribution of 19,000 hygiene kits for girls in school and the creation of separate washrooms for boys and girls was emphasized.

The Guinean event was packed!
It was all neat and nice, but I could read through the line. The last speaker, Francesco Galtieri, UNFPA country representative in Guinea linked it all together for me. For a country that is more traditional, the forces at the UN try to go for a soft sell. Because who doesn’t want gender equality in the workforce? Who doesn’t want education? Galtieri was the last panelist and the first to mention Sexual and reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR for short—which in short means promotion of contraception and abortion) and Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE for short—this is the promotion of sexual deviance of all kinds in schools). Because a lot of African countries rely on foreign aid, they are under heavy pressure to compromise on their national values and priorities to get necessary funding for essential services.

Galtieri (to the right) educates the Guinean delegation on how better to advance SRHR and CSE in their country.
During Question period, a pro-life delegate, Jean Crocco, made an intervention to challenge the UNFPA representative. She said: “I did feel that the representative from UNFPA was lecturing you to not have children. And I just wanted to say that I have ten children and I think that’s the most valuable thing in my life, and that your country, your culture need not give up on the hope of children in order to have prosperity.” This was followed by a decent applause from the participants in the room.

Jean, a pro-life delegate, challenges the UNFPA's anti-family and anti-children policies.
Second, I attended an event entitled Redefining Inclusivity: Transgender Rights in Workplaces and Public Spaces, hosted by the University of Massachusetts. This event featured a panel of trans activists and trans professors. This event had a strong focus on washrooms and gave arguments from various perspectives on how to address the issue. I was pleasantly surprised that nothing too radical was said. Instead, the presentation was calm, controlled, and respectful of diverging opinions. It seemed to want to create a positive discussion on how to address this important issue within the trans community. Of course, I did have a diverging opinion with most of the content presented but felt like this was a space we could actually have a discussion.

The 2nd event: Transgender right in workplaces and public spaces.
I suspected that the organizers of this parallel event wanted to avoid talking about other trans issues (like trans in sports: biological males competing in female sports). One of the panellists acknowledged the importance of (biological) female spaces, to ensure that all women feel safe in female-only spaces.

The 3rd event. Advancing radical SRHR policies in the Middle East.
Third, I attended an event entitled Unfinished Business: Beijing +30: Reflections on SRHR in the MENA region. (The MENA region—that’s Middle East and North Africa.) Now this one was interesting. As there were not many events happening concurrently, we had a larger pro-life presence in the room for this one. The event started out with the moderator asking participants to scan a QR code and answer a question on SRHR. Of course, all the pro-lifers in the room filled in the answers too. The answers were posted on the screen and read out loud by the moderator!

Pro-life views trickled into the event. Pro-life answers to the question were also read out loud, including "The total prohibition of abortion", "killing babies is always bad" and "ending abortion, which kills an innocent human being".
When it came to the panellist’s presentations, they were all in line with the agenda of promoting SRHR, but they did raise issues that any well-intentioned human being should have compassion towards: pregnant women in Gaza giving birth in camps in unsanitary settings, the increased likelihood of miscarriages and trauma of all sorts in war zones, breastfeeding women who don’t have milk because of malnutrition, rape and abuse by soldiers, etc. There was also talk of censorship in digital platforms (we have also often been censured). The last of the presenters was much more intense and in line with the radical feminist agenda, and it came through in her presentation.
After the presentations, the Question period was cut short since, right off the bat, one of our pro-life delegates asked a question that connected abortion to genocide (since genocide was mentioned in one of the presentations).

This radical pro-abortion event was badly attended. Perhaps because it was late in the day? It didn't stop them from going full force...
Then we went to the third part of the event: discussion on SRHR. I attempted to join the group — “SRHR and climate change.” I was genuinely interested in how those two topics could even go together. But I was a man dressed in a three-piece suit. That stuck out in a room full of feminists, and as some other pro-lifers had already attempted to ask questions, they made the connection between us. I sat down in the circle along with two African delegates, and right away, the moderator came at me, aggressively asking if I fully support SRHR. Without even being able to fully reply, I was asked to leave because I didn’t belong there (I was not from the MENA region). The two women next to me also thought they had to leave, since they also were not from the MENA region, but the moderator specified it was just me. I acknowledged that I was going to comply and leave, and right away, she followed up by harshly saying that she is calling security on me. After going to the lobby, one of the panellists (the radical one) came after me (with one of the main organizers) and accused me of disrupting the event, threatening people and making people unsafe, which I calmly denied. I was asked to leave the building, and I left.
So, these were three events that were very different from one another. First, one that is not radically opposed to our pro-life and pro-family position, but have some questionable elements; Second, one that is radically opposed to our pro-life and pro-family position but presented with respect for diverging opinions; and third, one that radically opposed to our pro-life and pro-family position and are hostile beyond measure to our simple presence.
In general, all side events and all parallel events (that we attended), with the exception of one side event hosted by the Holy See, fell in one of these three categories.
In my next blog, I will talk about the Holy See event, as well as the pro-life and pro-family conference that ran concurrently to the events at CSW.

The situation at the UN is worse than I thought …
I have a preliminary update for you on our mission to the United Nations.

Our contingent of pro-lifers at the UN
Our team was on the ground at the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for a whole week, doing everything we could to speak up for the rights of preborn children and present a different perspective on women and family. I attended over 20 events during the week, a few good, many bad, and many ugly!
Silenced, Watched, and Followed – Just for Being Pro-Life
I knew we were entering hostile territory, but I didn’t think they’d try to censor us in such a bold and disrespectful way. Members of our delegation were barred from access to some events, kicked out of other events, cursed at, talked down on, cut off when asking questions, watched, filmed and even followed around the UN premises! Even my simple presence at an event last night was enough to be asked to leave the event! Why do you think this is? I said nothing until they asked me something, I was sitting quietly, taking notes, listening, always calm and respectful.

Here I am (left) along with other pro-liferes, with the representative of the Holy See at the UN, His Excellency Gabriele Giordano Caccia
The UN: An "Echo Chamber" That Silences Dissent
Part of the answer lies in something I heard on the first day. On Monday, I attended a panel discussion hosted by Scandinavian countries. The moderator clearly said that, “here at the United Nations, we are living in an echo chamber, and that we need to find occasions to engage the people who think differently.” This was a great sentiment, but during my week at CSW, it is the exact opposite that I saw.
Anyone that raises a question that doesn’t fit their narrative must be silenced! Anyone that does approve of their core values cannot have a seat at the table.
Anyone who disagreed with the narrative that supports SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights), CSE (comprehensive sexual education), abortion, LGBTQIA2S+, and radical feminism in any form is not to be welcome at CSW.

A pro-life event held near the UN during the CSW gathering.
They Are Losing Billions in Funding – And They’re Angry
Another part of the answer to why they were so hostile to us—they just lost billions of dollars in US funding—billions that was used to promote SRHR and CSE around the world. They are afraid and unsure how to keep advancing their radical pro-abort agenda to all parts of the globe with these important funding cuts. And our mere presence was rubbing that in. They often repeated how well the anti-rights movement is funded compared to them (ROFL!!!). They think we must be making billions too! Little do they know how much we can accomplish on so little…
Pro-Lifers Had a Huge Impact at CSW!
Annick and I, along with our partners at Campaign Life Coalition did a wonderful job working tirelessly on little sleep, rushing from event to event, formulating great questions, talking to other delegates, and networking with other like-minded delegates. Like never before, pro-lifers at CSW had a huge impact. Thousands of delegates from around the world saw us and heard us. Many of them have never heard of the reality of abortion, the beauty of motherhood and the dangers of SRHR and CSE to women and children.
Not every delegate at CSW adheres to radical ideologies some (or perhaps many) of them are reasonable, thoughtful and genuine individuals who have great compassion for women and for all vulnerable people worldwide. It must have been refreshing for many of them to hear an alternate worldview on womanhood. To this effect, the series of pro-life and pro-family side events (including our event on bubble zones) was very popular and very liked.

Pro-life panel discussion at the UN.
Our Presence at the UN is Critical – But It Comes at a Cost
Sending a delegation of pro-life advocates was invaluable, but it came at a significant cost.
Our vital presence at the United Nations is shifting the conversation and bringing pro-life, pro-family voices to the table. I am very happy with what we accomplished, and I invite you to be part of it.
Your generous donation today will help finish funding our mission to the United Nations as well as help with our ongoing work in Quebec.
Your contribution will go a long way to protecting pre-born children here in Quebec, in Canada, but also in the whole world.

For life,

Arpad Nagy
P.S. Without generous donors like you, our presence at the UN—and our ongoing fight for life in Quebec and beyond—would not be possible. Please consider making a donation today to help us continue this vital mission.
