Suicide or Revival? The Choice Is Ours.

In an interview broadcast five days ago, American Vice President J.D. Vance asserted that Europe was "at risk of engaging in civilizational suicide." Whatever you think of the current U.S. vice president, on that point, he's right: low birth rates—due in large part to mass abortion—no-border mass immigration from countries that do not share the values that made Europe great, and Europe's forsaking of Christian culture all point to a future where Europe simply dissolves itself out of existence, like a decaying corpse.

Well, the same can be said for most, if not all, Western countries—including, and most especially, a certain part of Canada called "Quebec." One could say that Quebec already attempted suicide in the 1960s when it underwent the "Quiet Revolution" and cut itself off from its Christian roots. Today, sadly, as its birth rate dwindles and francophones become a minority in la Belle Province, Quebec is doubling down on banning religion from the public square—first by floating a ban on public prayer, then by evicting church groups from government buildings, including city-owned spaces and community centres.

It’s coming to a point where, instead of a Western, Christian society, Quebecers are living in a death-loving, communism-embracing society. Recently, I read a Facebook post from an émigré from Communist Romania who, several years ago, moved to Canada. She openly wondered: "What was the point of moving to Canada, now that we're more communist here than where I fled from?"

We can ask ourselves the same thing in Quebec: what's the point of staying here, when things are getting worse, not better—more communistic, more death-loving? (Quebec is now the world champion of assisted suicide.)

But the answer to the question why stay? is that God has a plan for us. We at QLC believe God wants us here. God is merciful. He doesn't want Quebec—or any other Western society—to perish, but rather to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). He sends forth His spokespeople to show the way out of bondage to sin.

At QLC, we have been pointing the way to faith, family, and life—from conception to natural death—for years. God put us here to be the seeds of renewal. And yes, it can be very hard, because a seed bears no fruit unless it dies (John 12:24).

Every day, the QLC team is doing God's work, under the radar, under the soil, dying to self: Brian prays and witnesses at 40 Days for Life and helps pregnant women in need, Arpad is networking at events or taking notes and asking difficult questions at the UN, and Augustin is covering Quebec and international news from a pro-life, pro-family perspective. These might not be grand geopolitical chess moves—often, these tasks are thankless—but they are the seeds that will grow in God's good time.

And you know what? We are growing.

Whenever we engage in these necessary quarterly fundraisers, we normally struggle to reach our goal—but not so much anymore. The many of you who have given so promptly and generously are showing us that our work is increasingly valued and appreciated. From across the country, and even as far as Africa, people are giving to QLC because they recognize that our fight is their fight. Our message is God's message of love to lost Western societies on the brink of civilizational suicide!

The harvest may not come tomorrow (it will in God's good time), but the ground is being readied for a restoration of the West. If it heeds the call, Quebec—and the rest of the West—instead of committing suicide, will, thanks to God's work through us, be given new life.

This Spring—a time of sacrifice, prayer, and giving for many—thank you for joining us in extending God's mercy to Quebec, Canada, and beyond.

Please give so that we can keep giving, too.

For Life,

Georges Buscemi
President, Quebec Life Coalition

P.S. If you haven’t yet given, now is the time. Your donation is a stand for faith, family, and life in a culture that has lost its way. Please give today so that we can continue this vital mission.

Who is Mark Carney, Canada's new Prime Minister?
In general, Mr Carney seems to be fairly discreet about his moral convictions. With one rare exception, on June 24th, 2022, he wrote a tweet on the occasion of the Dobbs ruling (overturning the Roe ruling) by the US Supreme Court, deploring the rollback of "woman’s right to choose" (i.e. abortion).

The situation at the UN is worse than I thought …
Our team was on the ground at the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) for a whole week, doing everything we could to speak up for the rights of preborn children and present a different perspective on women and family. I attended over 20 events during the week, a few good, many bad, and many ugly!
