Prayer Volunteers Needed
40 Days for Life
The start of our bi-annual prayer for the end of abortion is fast approaching.
40 Days for Life will begin on Wednesday 5 March, Ash Wednesday, and run through Sunday 13 April for a total of 40 consecutive days of pro-life advocacy.
THE LENTEN EXPERIENCE
Christians are encouraged to deepen their experience of the Lenten wilderness through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Participation in the 40-day vigil permits these three elements to be present. Prayer volunteers often spend their time in prayer; abstaining from food and water brings in the fasting component; and the time you spend on the front lines is the giving of your precious time.
Consider signing up with a friend for a one-hour block once a week over the course of the 40 days. Regular participants will greatly appreciate the break.
Does your schedule allow you to be present on a weekday between 10 am and 5 pm?
ENDING THE INJUSTICE OF ABORTION
The vigil in itself is a visible, public presence near an abortion business in our community. To this end, we will continue our long-standing tradition of holding the vigil at the corner of Berri and St. Catherine Streets. Not only is this location close to an abortion facility, but it is also highly visible.
It is a peaceful and educational presence. Those who are called to stand witness during this 12-hour-a-day presence (7am to 7pm) send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion in their neighbourhood. It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work in the abortion centre and those who support the business.
It is estimated that there are about 30,000 abortions per year, in Quebec.
