Trudeau Resigns, But Quebec’s War on Faith Rages On

A blessed New Year to all of you from the Quebec Life Coalition!

We were overjoyed to receive what felt like a New Year's gift on January 6th, the Feast of the Magi, when Justin Trudeau announced his resignation. If you haven’t yet read my statement on this significant development, you can do so here.

While some suggest Trudeau’s resignation might be a political ploy, I believe this is an overreaction. Yes, there is some wiggle room in his announcement—he framed it as happening after a "competitive" leadership race. However, a reversal would be political suicide. Should Trudeau backtrack, the millions of Canadians who have had enough of his legacy would deliver him an even more devastating electoral defeat than was anticipated before his resignation statement. It would make Kim Campbell’s historic 1993 debacle look like a walk in the park.

But let us not dwell too much on political dramas. As defenders of faith, family, and life, our mission transcends the soap opera of partisan politics. Instead, we must inspire leaders of all stripes to embrace principles rooted in Scripture and the Christian faith, which Christ gave us to guide society through this valley of tears.

Nowhere is this mission more urgent than in Quebec, where secularism has taken a particularly aggressive turn. As you know, Premier François Legault recently floated the idea of banning public prayer in Quebec, claiming that such expressions “are not something we want.” This proposal strikes at the heart of Quebec’s Christian roots, which have shaped its culture and identity for centuries.

The reality is that Quebec’s rejection of its Christian heritage has left it demographically and spiritually ruined. Consider this: in 1950, the median age in Quebec was 25, and the average woman had 3.5 children. Today, the median age is 42, and the fertility rate has plummeted to an alarming 1.38 children per woman. That’s the devastating legacy of widespread abortion, contraception, no-fault divorce, same-sex marriage, and the LGBT ideology that dominates public discourse.

At Quebec Life Coalition, we are committed to reversing this cultural and spiritual decline. A key part of this effort in 2025 is our petition against the proposed public prayer ban. Over 12,000 individuals have already signed in support of religious freedom and Quebec’s Christian heritage. We plan to present this petition to Minister Jean-François Roberge, responsible for “secularism,” in the coming weeks.

If you haven’t yet signed the petition, I encourage you to do so here. And if you’ve already signed, please share it with friends and family. Together, we can ensure that the voices of Canadians who cherish their faith and traditions are heard loud and clear.

Thank you for your continued support. May God bless you abundantly in this New Year, and may He guide us all in the work ahead.

Yours in Christ,

Georges Buscemi
President, Quebec Life Coalition
