We are in the last days of our Spring fundraising campaign – with a mere 5 days left, we’ve so far collected $16 468 of our $20,000 goal. That leaves $3,532 to go. Last Thursday I was on a call with a pro-life colleague. We discussed the news of the passage of the anti-Christian, anti-free speech Bill C-9 in the House of Commons. The bill is now all but law, having only to pass a Senate that has been stacked with Justin Trudeau Liberals. The decisive vote can happen any time now.
My colleague plaintively observed: "We're always losing."
In a way, he's right. We are losing judicial and legislative battles, one after the other. And yet, I told my colleague that I wouldn't call these total losses. For in spite of the defeats, our efforts at opposing evil are being noticed by many thousands in the case of C-9, and as in other battles, our movement has grown—substantially: our supporter numbers are up, our contacts are more numerous, and the number of people aware of the rot in government and in our culture has dramatically increased. So yes, we are losing battles, but through these battles we are building the means to win the war.
QLC works day in, day out, in Quebec and the rest of Canada, bringing forth a society that defends faith, family and life, from conception to natural death. Please consider giving today >>.
How can I be so confident?
I'm confident because God is in charge. And I don't mean that as a "coping," pious platitude. I mean it in the sense that, as in private life, when a society disobeys God, it can "get away with it"—in the sense that God allows the evil—but it cannot escape the consequences. In political terms, this means that when so-called progressives attack God's plan for life, family, and faith through abortion, euthanasia, LGBTQ propaganda, faux marriage, and all the rest, they only "win" in the sense that they are free to commit the mistake of legalizing sin—but they are NOT free from the consequences of legalizing sin.
A society that disobeys God's condemnation of shedding innocent blood and legalizes abortion, for example, will see its population numbers nosedive, as all Western countries have, and will then need to find sometimes less-than-exemplary replacements to substitute for the dead babies who never had a chance to grow up and be productive citizens. So yes, "progressives" win by legalizing abortion, but society loses—and is now paying a steep demographic price (100,000 babies are killed by abortion every year in Canada).
A tragic situation in Spain illustrates this dynamic. Many of the things progressives have "won" in the last 50 years—legalizing abortion, legalizing euthanasia, and opening the doors to mass migration—are all present in the case of 25-year-old Noelia Castillo Ramos.

Noelia Castillo Ramos (2000-2026)
She was born in an early-2000s Spain already shaped by these trends. After abortion was entrenched and births plummeted, mass migration was allowed in part to compensate for the demographic collapse. And lo, beggars can't be choosers—and it seems no serious vetting was done on who was let in. In her teen years, Noelia was allegedly—according to right-wing party leader Santiago Abascal—gang-raped by a group of underage migrants.
Whatever the identity of the perpetrators, Noelia was devastated by this sexual assault. She attempted suicide in 2022 and, though not successful, was left half-crippled from the attempt.
In a country where euthanasia is legal, Noelia, at age 25, unable to find within herself the will to live, opted on March 26 for euthanasia to exit this world of trauma.
This sad story exemplifies, in one tragic life, the whole arc of the "victories" of progressivism: legalize killing babies, import instability, and euthanize the victims. Aren't progressives tired of "winning"?
Thank you for standing with QLC—especially when the work is difficult, unpopular, and absolutely necessary. With only 5 days left and $ 3,532 to go, we need your generous help. Give today.
Here's the lesson for us: so-called victories that go against God's law are not real victories, but self-mutilating own-goals for both individuals and society. We should feel sorry for people who think they are "winning" when making such grave mistakes.
I told my colleague that I likened this destruction of Western society by "progressives" to a kind of barbarian invasion leveling everything—except the Church, the body of believers in Christ who keep the flame of faith alive and God's moral law intact. When the fire of destruction dies down, the Church's holy fire will still be there, as it was in late antiquity, to light the world ablaze anew.
And this is precisely how I see our role at Quebec Life Coalition.
Though I find it painful to watch the mutilation of Quebec and Canadian society, I focus not on what is going down, but on what is being built up: we are building up the Church, maintaining a network of believers who, when the time comes, can restore our societies—both in Quebec and across Canada.
In this time of hardship, we might be tempted to hang our heads and think "we always lose," but unlike Lot's wife, let us not be hypnotized by the destruction of Gomorrah. Let us look ahead to our redemption—and our society's restoration—in Christ.
