These days in Quebec, pro-abortion activists are engaged in a weird debate about whether they should enshrine abortion in a recently tabled Quebec constitution bill or, on the other hand, “let sleeping dogs lie” and just keep things as they are. 

A recent article in Quebec paper Le Devoir for which I was interviewed confirms this fact. So did the CBC, CTV and Montreal Gazette interviews I participated in.

As strange as this might sound, most pro-abortion activists in Quebec are worried that enshrining abortion in any future Quebec constitution will serve as a rallying point for us pro-lifers — that it would give us a “target” to aim at, a cause to rally around. Talk about us pro-lifers living in their heads rent-free!

One particular activist, Véronique Pronovost of the Université du Québec à Montréal, who seems to spend a lot of time reading everything we write (hello Véronique!), notices how crafty we pro-lifers at Quebec Life Coalition and elsewhere are at seizing on cultural and political events to further our cause. She worries that enshrining abortion in Quebec would motivate pro-lifers across Canada to further concentrate their pro-life giving in Quebec.

And you know what — she’s right! Because we at Quebec Life Coalition have indeed made this point, and generous people from Quebec and across Canada have indeed answered — and on behalf of the unborn across Canada and Quebec, we’re so grateful for it!

The more Quebec pro-abortion activists stir the pot — trying to ban public prayer, trying to enshrine abortion, trying to shove anti-life sex ed in schools — the more we at Quebec Life Coalition can make the argument that pro-lifers across Canada and even across North America should rally to Quebec to confront these challenges and help overcome them.

But you know what’s also true? We win either way. If abortion doesn’t get enshrined in the constitution, great — because we are currently fighting against its being enshrined. In fact, we even invited you (if you live in Quebec) to contact your MNA to tell them you reject adding abortion, euthanasia and secularism to the constitution. And exactly 700 of you have answered.

But even if our opponents get this so-called “win,” meaning if these things get enshrined, this doesn’t really change things for us. Constitutions come and go. Souls are forever.

And this is the point: we are working in Quebec to change the culture, and even a tragically flawed Quebec constitution will not stop us from getting to people and changing hearts and minds, as our recent actions on the ground and in social media show. We'll have more to say on our great progress in the coming days.

So yes, the pro-aborts need to be concerned. Thanks to you, we are making good progress. The problem for them is that whether they “win” or not, we really can’t be stopped — not because we’re so great, but because our God is.
