The Quebec City March for Life despite the obstacles

By Augustin Hamilton (Quebec Life Coalition) - Photo: Georges Buscemi

It was an epic and wet march!

This year, once again, we held the Quebec City March for Life despite all the obstacles that were thrown in our path and despite the rain.

Around 500 to 600 pro-lifers answered the call from Quebec Life Coalition and marched for the lives of unborn children through the streets of Quebec City on May 31th 2025.

The theme of the march was "Every human being has the right to life". This is a quote from the Quebec Charter, the 50th anniversary of which is being celebrated this year.

This time, unfortunately, we were unable to have a stage, as the police had forbidden us to do so a few days before the march... citing the unlikely fact that it would complicate security management. If only they didn't do their job halfheartedly! So we had to improvise, a good block of concrete is worth all the platforms!

All was quiet towards the start of the rally, apart from a small group of antifas at some distance flanked by police ( look at the images, you'll see from the direction of the police who was considered a potential danger) when a handful of feminists who had infiltrated our ranks set off coloured smoke bombs that they were holding at arm's length, while making a racket with whistles. This incident only lasted a few minutes before the feminists were expelled, but it was only the start of hostilities, from that moment on several groups of counter-demonstrators arrived with various noise-making devices, including foghorns, making a wild racket. Fortunately we had plenty of ear plugs!

I'm not going to describe in detail all the malice they deployed to disrupt our event, no doubt to put us off doing it again, but suffice it to say that they followed us all the way, deriding us, deafening us and harassing us. At one point they blocked the route, forcing us to take a different path. Some of them stayed until the bitter end, hanging on until the tents were dismantled.

Their "hedge of shame" was rather impressive, in the sense that it gave the impression of going up to Golgotha, but it wasn't very convincing when it comes to the pro-abortion ideology they were defending. It was rather sad, more than anything else, to see these human beings show so much hatred, disrespect and contempt. Well, if they thought they were going to discourage us, they didn't! On the other hand, I'm now going to be bored by events where nothing happens... What I don't understand about the behaviour of these supporters of the "choice" is why they absolutely did not want to let us have the "choice" to express our opinion freely!

The "hedge of shame", the name is well chosen, but the shame and abjection were not where its participants thought they were... Photo: AH

Despite all these obstacles, we were able to march and demonstrate for the unborn child.

After the march, which had to be cut short, we were able to meet and dine together, despite the pro-abortionists who wanted to deprive us of our freedom of assembly and expression. Indeed, the pro-abortionists succeeded in getting the Delta hotel to cancel our banquet a few days before the march. The Delta cancelled the event on the pretext that it had received threats and that its employees did not feel safe. An article on Impact Campus, a site I didn't know about until now, inviting people to counter-demonstrate against our march, reported with satisfaction the success of the cancellation campaign launched by Québec Antifasciste on Instagram:

"Call 418.647.1717 to express your disagreement. Even easier, let future visitors to the hotel know what kind of gatherings are allowed within these walls by giving a single star on Google. We're running out of time, we have to cancel the banquet!"

Among the counter-demonstrators was the logo of the CSN, which also counter-demonstrated last year. Do the CSN and the antifas have a relationship?

A number of media outlets and blogs have reported on the March for Life and the events surrounding it: (warning: indecent feminists and signs) LifeSiteNews, The Catholic Register, Everyday For Life, Le Soleil, Le Journal de Québec. See the full video of the March for Life in Quebec City, filmed by Théovox.

The articles in Le Soleil and Le Journal de Québec present the demonstration and counter-demonstration as a "confrontation", without specifying that the pro-abortionists were the only ones making a racket, the only ones making smoke and the only ones showing disrespect.

What's more, it's deplorable that the police didn't keep this pack far enough away so that they couldn't deafen us; no doubt they didn't dare to crack down on these protégés of power and the media caste. This inaction by the authorities is unacceptable, because it encourages pressure groups of varying degrees of violence to continue persecuting their political opponents. Is the government (itself pro-abortion) aware that it could be seen as favouring an armed wing that serves its interests by turning a blind eye to these "youthful errors" - which will be absolved twenty years later by a complicit media system? If we had done even a quarter of what they did, let's see, for example, at a "pride" parade, you can be sure that the police would have been far more eager to crack down on us!

Many thanks to all the participants in the March for Life for your patience, courage and perseverance. Special thanks to our volunteers for their invaluable help, without which this unique event in Quebec could not take place. Finally, a big thank you to all our guests, especially those who were unable to give their speeches or testimonies because of the pro-abortion noise.

See you next year!

P.S. We've created a questionnaire so that you can give us your impressions of the March for Life and tell us what we should improve.
