The myth of the rarity of late-term abortion

Late-term abortion is “rare” in Canada, we are told. What is the reality?

The Canadian Medical Association Journal recently published an article calling for a change in the recording of stillbirths, due to the fact that Canada's figures are abnormally high compared to other countries because abortions after 20 weeks are counted as stillbirths... The article mentions a stillbirth rate more than double that of other countries with similar economies!

This obviously leads us to wonder whether babies are being left to die after being expelled from the womb. A study conducted in Quebec and published in 2024 revealed that 11.2% of babies aborted in the second trimester were still alive at birth.

On the same subject, the media reported that in South Korea, a woman and two doctors were sentenced to prison for the murder of a baby, receiving respectively sentences of three years with probation, four years, and six years. The woman, who was 36 weeks pregnant, obtained an abortion from these doctors, which consisted of extracting the baby by caesarean section and killing it in a freezer, according to court documents. As the baby was alive outside its mother's womb, the case fell under the country's infanticide laws.

On a lighter note, good news comes from south of the border. In its March 2 ruling Mirabelli v. Bonta, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized the right of parents to educate their children without state interference, condemning California for “transitioning” children in school without their parents' knowledge.

On this day, March 4, 2026, the 40 Days for Life campaign are underway, beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Palm Sunday. Fifteen days have already passed, with 25 remaining. Under the leadership of our colleague Brian Jenkins, the 40 Days in Montreal are an event of prayer, witness, and offering help of great importance. They ensure a constant pro-life presence in the very vicinity of these abortion clinics where unborn children are killed. If you live nearby, will you give even one hour of your time in a week to participate in this life-saving work?

For more information, contact Brian Jenkins at (438) 930-8643.

Don't forget our petition against the C-9 censorship bill. Censorship is already strong enough in Canada that we shouldn't let it get any worse. The case of British Columbia school board trustee Barry Neufeld, who was fined $750,000 for his bold criticism of teaching LGBT ideology to children, should serve as a warning to us all.

Finally, I wholeheartedly invite you to register for our Génération Vie event, which will take place on April 25 in Montreal.

Génération Vie conference

On Saturday, April 25th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., we invite you to join us in Montreal at 740 Roy Street (Sherbrooke metro station) for Génération Vie (formerly FestiVie). It will be a true cultural and political crossroads to strengthen ties between pro-faith, pro-family, and pro-life actors from across the province, to exchange ideas, equip ourselves, and build together. Génération Vie is a must-attend event that is set to grow year after year — we invite you to join us on April 25th and contribute to this great gathering for the future of Quebec. The event is free, but donations will be welcome. Ample parking is available nearby.
The event will be held in French, with possible simultaneous translation (details to follow).
