An unexpected mediatic visibility!

"In a response to Mr. Buscemi, the minister stated on Patrick Masbourian’s broadcast that 'Quebecers do not want to be intimidated' by anti-abortion groups," reads Le Devoir.

What powerful threat could the president of Qubec Life Coalition have brandished over the “right” to abortion for Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette to raise his honourable person against such an imminent danger?

When questioned by a Le Devoir journalist about his perspective on the possible constitutionalization of abortion, Mr. Buscemi acknowledged that such a law would represent a concrete objective to fight against:

“The only thing is that it adds something concrete, a kind of target to take down, yes,” he said in an interview with Le Devoir. Mr. Buscemi, who compares abortions to “murders,” claims that such an addition to the law “would certainly be another rallying point.”

Georges Buscemi responding in an interview that abortion in the constitution could constitute a concrete target.

That was all it took to fuel feminists’ fears and give them the confirmation they were looking for that constitutionalizing abortion is a bad idea. Strikingly, pro-abortion groups oppose this project, saying it would paradoxically open a breach in the so-called “right.” “It could give us ammunition,” they say, because “we could then challenge this provision in court, creating a target where there was none,” according to 98.5.

Simon Jolin-Barrette, for his part, argues that it is precisely the courts in their current state that represent a danger, not after the constitutionalization of abortion, reports La Presse:

“In his view, courts could very well change their minds and invalidate decisions that currently confirm the right to terminate a pregnancy, hence the need to affirm the State’s obligation to act.”

But, as Mr. Buscemi pointed out, what judge would be willing to rule in our favor (whether there is a constitution or not)? According to Le Devoir:

“Mr. Buscemi, for his part, denies preparing a legal challenge. ‘It’s not like we’re rubbing our hands waiting for abortion to be, like, canonized, made a right enshrined […] in the Constitution,’ he assures. And, anyway, ‘what judge would be receptive to our arguments in 2025?’ he asks.”

This internal struggle among pro-abortion advocates is most peculiar; one would think that enshrining abortion in the constitution would make the practice even more invicible.

But this is where we see that "Claiming to be wise, they became fool" (Romans 1:22). Truly, it seems as though they flee at "the sound of a shaken leaf" (Leviticus 26:36), or tremble "with sudden terror, where there is no cause for terro" (Psalm 53:6).

Who knows what will come out of this hysterical frenzy where they tear each other apart?

And what about our fight for the unborn child?

You see, whether abortion enters the constitution or not, our fight will remain more or less the same: instead of denouncing a state of affairs where the unborn child is protected by no law, we will denounce a state of affairs where the killing of unborn children is encouraged by law.

What is positive about all this media-political agitation is that abortion is being talked about and that we are being publicized. The fact that the media mention us and that a minister must publicly comment on us increases the reach of our voice.

We work tirelessly so that the rights of unborn children are one day recognized and strive to change the culture in Quebec for the long term. For this, we need your help, both active and financial.

And our efforts are bearing fruit! 700 people responded to our call to contact their MP to ask for the withdrawal of the project to enshrine abortion in the constitution.

Thanks to your help, our presence continues to grow. Four years ago, we barely had 2 or 3 Life Chains; this year we had about thirty!

Just three years ago, the Quebec March for Life didn’t even exist; thanks to your help, we held our second consecutive march — events that certainly did not go unnoticed!

Four years ago, we might have sent 500 emails outside Quebec; now, we send thousands of emails weekly beyond our borders.

Likewise, just a few months ago, our presence on social media was rather modest. In only three months, we have experienced explosive growth: 2,000 new followers and 3 million views. Hundreds of comments stretch dizzyingly beneath our posts. As a moderator, I see many people defending unborn children and the family with unexpected strength and inspiration.

I tell you, your participation is precious to us, and we invite you to demonstrate (much to some people’s dismay) that the debate on abortion is not over.

I would also ask you to kindly help us financially in our fundraising campaign to continue this essential fight. Unlike all these pro-abortion organizations, we depend entirely on your donations. Our goal is $25,000; we have raised $5,846 so far.

Many thanks for your generosity,

For Life,
Augustin Hamilton
