They silenced Charlie Kirk. Here’s how we answer.

When I sent my last email to you on Wednesday afternoon, I had no idea that, only minutes earlier, a bullet had pierced the throat of Charlie Kirk.

The prominent U.S. pro-life conservative was in the middle of answering a question from the audience at an outdoor event at the University of Utah. He died doing what he loved most: proclaiming truth and debating with courage on university campuses across the United States.

Charlie Kirk—through his Turning Point organization, with its constant and wildly popular campus tours and its massive conferences (the last I recall hearing about drew thousands and featured speakers like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens)—was gone. I can’t say I regularly followed his programs, but as a pro-life activist I often saw clips of him engaging students on fundamental issues: the dignity of Life, the truth of Christianity, and the essential role of the traditional family in society.

Beginning at age 18, after dropping out of college, he built in less than 14 years a movement that consolidated pro-life and pro-family votes—especially among students—for the Republican Party, and helped secure Trump’s 2024 mandate.

And now, at only 31 years of age, the man many believed could one day become president of the United States has been cut down. His wife Erika is left a widow, and his two young children, orphans.

What are we to make of this? On Facebook, someone commented on my post about Kirk’s passing: “Maybe you’re next, George Buscemi. We’ll pray for you.”

This was my reply: “Our life belongs to God. What is up to us is to live it worthily, day by day, according to His will. The rest is just details.” I then concluded with a passage from the Gospels: “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? … Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient unto the day is the trouble of it.” (Matthew 6:27, 34)

Kirk’s death, untimely in our eyes, was timely in God’s. He who sees all and knows all, who wills or permits all, knew that Charlie was to die last Wednesday. Charlie was a martyr for truth, and—as the early Church taught—the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church. God has greater plans for those of us who remain. It is up to us to discern them and to use well the precious time we are given.

What can we do, then? Not all of us are called to the same sacrifice as Charlie Kirk. But all of us are called to be “martyrs”—witnesses—in our own way, day by day.

May I suggest one form of witness that nearly everyone reading this can take part in?

On Sunday, October 5 at 2 p.m., LifeChains will take place simultaneously across Canada and around the world. In Quebec and elsewhere, hundreds of groups of pro-lifers and Christians will gather, silently praying in public for an end to abortion. For one hour, in towns and neighborhoods large and small, they will hold signs such as “Abortion Kills Children” and “Jesus Forgives and Heals.” These are the same truths Kirk brought to university campuses. We can do our part in continuing his work by bringing the message to our own communities.

I sincerely hope you will join us in this public witness by signing up here for Quebec, or here for the rest of Canada.

Finally, as you may know, Quebec Life Coalition carries out its mission through donations. This too is a real form of sacrifice: donors give their treasure so that God may be glorified through the works accomplished in His Name. From my last email we have already received just over $1,000. But to reach our goal of $20,000 by the end of this campaign, we still need $19,000.

Can you help ?

Thank you, and God bless.

For Life,

Georges Buscemi
President, Quebec Life Coalition
