Mark Carney.

Last Sunday, after attending Catholic Mass, Prime Minister Mark Carney was asked by a reporter if he “explicitly support[s] a woman’s right to choose?” In the lead up to the question, the reporter had observed that Mr. Carney was a “practicing Catholic who went to Church” earlier in the morning.
Carney, practically tripping over his words in his eagerness to answer the question, replied: “I absolutely support a woman’s right to choose, unreservedly, and will defend it as the Liberal Party has defended it – proudly and consistently.”
Yes, horrifically, Carney, a practicing Catholic, supports the barbaric slaughtering of the weakest and most vulnerable among us – the preborn child.
He supports this even though Catholic teaching makes it clear that killing preborn children is a grave moral evil.
"Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion," states the Catechism of the Catholic Church. "This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
Carney’s answer is a betrayal of his Catholic faith. Jesus is clear that what one does to “the least” among us, one also does to Jesus. Those who claim to be followers of Jesus and who champion killing preborn babies, certainly the “least” among us, are also doing this to Jesus.
Carney also betrays what kind of man he is. It is the small, weak, and pathetic who refuse to defend the lives of the innocent who are targeted for death. It is the vicious who champion their deaths. Men are created to defend the weak, even to lay down their lives if necessary. By defending abortion, Carney has gutted himself of his manhood.
His answer also betrays his complete ignorance of abortion in Canada.
The fact is that there is no “right to choose” abortion in Canada nor in international law, for that matter.
Abortion was first permitted by a new law in 1969 under certain restricted circumstances. Prior to this, committing an abortion was a crime under the Criminal Code. In the 1988 Morgentaler decision, the Supreme Court threw out the 1969 abortion law on the basis that it was “unconstitutional,” ruling that the law’s detailed criteria for obtaining an abortion violated a woman’s Charter right to “security of the person.”
Neither the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms nor the Supreme Court of Canada established a right to abortion. The Supreme Court tasked Parliament in 1988 with creating a new law. This never happened, though an attempt was made in 1989 with the flawed Bill C-43 (An Act respecting abortion).
So, contrary to Carney’s assertion, there is no “right to choose” to kill a preborn baby in Canada.
All that exists is a legal vacuum, leaving the pre-born without legal protection. Killing a preborn baby is available on-demand, for any reason, or no reason at all. Preborn babies can be destroyed from their very beginning, all the way until the baby has entirely proceeded from the mother’s womb. Even killing the baby during birth is legally permitted.
Please pray for this delusional man who champions the killing of our fellow brothers and sisters created in the image of God.
Pray also for Catholic bishops to intervene in this matter and show some leadership. They need to publicly call Carney to repentance for this and, if he refuses, to pursue appropriate sanctions that could include denial of Holy Communion and, if that fails to bring him around, excommunication.
The preborn depend on us; let us be bold and daring for life!
