Life Chain 2026: there are more of us than you think

On Sunday, October 4, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., pro-life Canadians will line streets in hundreds of communities across the country for the annual Life Chain. One hour. One sign. Silent prayer.

Quebec Life Coalition (QLC) is aiming for 60 Life Chain locations across Quebec this year. That is double what the province fielded last year.

Ambitious? Yes. Unrealistic? Not even close. And we can show you why.

What you are looking at is not our mailing list. It is something far more selective.

Those clusters represent 10,649 people living in Quebec who have actually done something for the pro-life movement with Quebec Life Coalition: signed petitions, given, asked to volunteer, and usually several of these, repeatedly, over years. Our database awards points automatically for each such action, and we filtered well above the threshold that separates the occasional reader from the committed supporter.

We were deliberately conservative in one further way. We looked only at people who came to us within the last ten years. That is not because our longtime friends matter less. Many have stood with us for thirty years and more, and they are the reason this organization exists at all. But a supporter who has given faithfully every month since 1995 accumulates a high score through sheer generosity, and generosity, blessed as it is, does not tell us whether someone will stand on a sidewalk in October. We wanted the harder test. So we looked for recent, varied, active engagement.

10,649 people. And that is only a fraction of our database, which holds 74,614.

Now do the arithmetic with us. Sixty Life Chains and 10,649 committed pro-lifers in Quebec works out to 177 people per location.

Frankly, the map suggests Quebec could field a hundred Life Chains and still have more than a hundred people available for each one.

So here is the bottom line, and please hear it: if you are pro-life in Quebec, you are not alone. You are not a handful. There are thousands of you, in every region of the province, and the map above shows only the ones we know about.

What we are actually asking of you

One hour, once a year.

You arrive. The local organizer hands you a sign. You find a spot on the sidewalk, spread out along the street, and you stand. There is no marching. There is no chanting. There are no arguments with passers-by. You pray, silently, on your own, and you are seen.

The signs say:

  • Abortion Kills Children
  • Abortion Hurts Women
  • Adoption: The Loving Option
  • Life, the First Inalienable Right
  • Pray to End Abortion

That is the whole of it. And on October 4, thousands of drivers and pedestrians will read those words.

A word to pastors and church leaders

You are in a position almost no one else occupies: you can bring a congregation.

And consider the timing. Sunday service in the morning. Lunch together afterward. Life Chain at 2:00 p.m. It is the natural close to a Sunday, and it asks your people for a single hour of their afternoon.

If you lead a congregation and have ever wondered what concrete thing you might do for the pre-born, this is it. Start a Life Chain in your community. Tell us you intend to, and we will help you do it -- simply check the box marked “I want to organize a Life Chain in my area” when you sign up.

And a word to everyone else

You do not need a title. You do not need a congregation, a committee, or any experience whatsoever. Life Chains get started by ordinary people who decided their town ought to have one.

If that stirs something in you, simply check the box marked “I want to organize a Life Chain in my area” when you sign up. We will take it from there.

Outside Quebec?

Life Chain is national. Visit lifechain.ca to find a location near you, or to start one.

Roughly sixty children are killed by abortion in Quebec every day. Sixty Life Chains: one for each of them. Those children have no voice, no vote, and no protection in law at any stage of pregnancy. On one afternoon in October, they have you.

We are opposed to the killing of children in the womb. On October 4, we will say so, quietly, in public, where it cannot be ignored.

Sign up today. As soon as the locations are set, we will write and tell you which one is closest to you.

Yours for Life,

Georges Buscemi
President, Quebec Life Coalition

P.S. It is not too early to commit. It is exactly the right time. We build the map of Quebec locations over the summer, and we build it around the people who have told us they are coming. Your signup is what puts a Life Chain near your home.

P.P.S. Outside Quebec? lifechain.ca lists hundreds of locations across the country, and you can sign up there.

P.P.P.S. If you are willing to organize, check “I want to organize a Life Chain in my area” when you sign up. Sixty locations is the goal. The evidence from our own database says we can do better than sixty. Help us prove it.
