Annual day of public witness for children killed by abortion

The Life Chain is a day of public witness and prayer. It takes place simultaneously at several different locations and lasts one hour. The next Life Chain will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m., at most locations.

Mark your calendar and sign up at the bottom of this page.

A small pro-life group called “Please Let Me Live” in Yuba City, California, organized the first Life Chain in 1987, and the U.S. has had a national Life Chain every year since. More than 30 years ago, in 1990, Campaign Life Coalition introduced the Life Chain to Canada, sparking a powerful public witness in our country that has stood the test of years, saved lives and changed hearts.

How does it work?

The Life Chain is an easy way to get involved in pro-life activism. All you have to do is find out when and where your local Life Chain will be held, and come along to stand for an hour on the sidewalk with others who aren't ashamed to bear public witness to their pro-life beliefs. Your local Life Chain organizer will provide you with a sign without a Life Chain image to hold, and you can pray in silence for the end of abortion and for those affected by it. Please read and abide by the Life Chain Code of Conduct. (Life Chain Code of Conduct.)

Why is the Life Chain important?

The Life Chain is a simple event, but one that has a major impact. It makes it easy for churches and individuals to bear witness to the sanctity of life in their own neighborhoods. Many lives have been saved thanks to Life Chain; many hearts have been changed; every year, countless Canadians realize that many of their neighbors believe that life is sacred and are encouraged to take a stand too; many have found healing from abortion-related suffering - all thanks to Life Chain. Here are a few pictures from the 2023 Life Chain

Supporters

“It is our responsibility as people of faith to bear witness to the sanctity of human life and to support those who have been affected by abortion.” - Archbishop Donald Bolen of Regina

“As the culture of death spreads inexorably around us, it is more important than ever that those who 'have eyes to see' remind society at large that life is a gift to be cherished and defended at every stage.” - Most Reverend Stephen Jensen, Bishop of Prince George
