I died that day… And yet I was still alive. So what to do?

We are continuing today our Spring fundraising campaign – with a little over 2 weeks left, we’ve so far collected 1,551$ of our 20,000 goal. Thanks for reading on to understand why your donation is crucial to changing the culture in Quebec and Canada. Donate today.

In the fall of 2024, Quebec Life Coalition was in court, trying to overturn the Quebec government’s bubble-zone law, which forces pro-lifers to stand 50 metres or more away from abortion centres.

These anti-speech zones prevent any kind of sidewalk counselling — a practice where one or two people remain on the public sidewalk near abortion facilities to offer help or alternatives to the women entering the “clinic.”

Quebec Life Coalition had its day in court. We wanted to show the Superior Court judge that our prayer vigils and sidewalk counselling outside abortion facilities in Montreal were not “harassment” or “intimidation,” but charitable work aimed at offering women real alternatives — and, if possible, persuading them not to have their child killed.

In the end, our attempt to have the bubble-zone law struck down failed. The judge ruled it “constitutional.” The 50-metre bubble zones remain in force to this day.

Some would say the effort was wasted. We disagree.

Quebec Life Coalition seeks to bring light into every arena of society — including the courts. Judges, lawyers, our opponents (abortion workers and clinic owners were present during the trial), and even the journalists covering the case all need to hear the truth about the sanctity of human life, spoken plainly and without apology.

And that is what we did.

We have now finally obtained portions of the trial transcripts. Today, I can share with you part of the testimony I personally gave before the judge, the government lawyers, and the abortionists present in the room.

QLC works day in, day out, to end abortion in Quebec, and bring forth a society that defends faith, family and life, from conception to natural death. Please consider giving today >>.

The excerpts below explain why we do what we do at QLC. We work to save unborn children because, once you grasp what abortion is, there is no moral alternative.

That morning in court, after the formalities (oath, name, address), our lawyer, Robert Reynolds, asked me a simple question:

“Why did you decide to make a career with QLC in 2008?”

It is a question we at QLC still ask ourselves every day. Why do this work, day after day?

Here is part of my answer, given on November 11, 2024 (translated from French; lightly edited for flow):

I was a student at McGill in religious studies. I was beginning a doctorate, and for social reasons I joined a pro-life group on campus called Choose Life McGill. Our second activity was a pro-life apologetics evening. We listened to arguments in favour of life and against abortion. They were strong. They were rational. I agreed — but only in an abstract way.

Then they showed us videos of abortions at different stages of pregnancy.

If you want to see the very video I saw in 2008, click here (view discretion is advised).

At that moment, when I saw on the screen the small bodies of unborn children, something in me broke open. I said to myself: “My life has just been turned upside down.” I had been an ordinary student, rather intellectual. I wanted to become a university professor. Suddenly I could no longer imagine sitting in a Starbucks writing a thesis on Kant’s moral proof of God’s existence while, a few blocks away, babies were being dismembered or suctioned in their mother’s womb — in the one place where a child should be perfectly safe.

And this is exactly the point: once you know what abortion really is, there is no turning back. That's why all of us at QLC working full-time (we're 5 now), have made it our life's mission to fight what we consider to be a horrible crime against innocent human life.

I found it traumatic. Truly traumatic. Unspeakably sad. In a sense, I died that day — yet I was still alive. So what to do? I searched online for a pro-life group in Quebec and quickly found Campagne Québec-Vie [Quebec Life Coalition], working in Montreal.

I did "die" that day. I wasn't the same person afterwards. There is a "before", then an "after". Once you understand what abortion is, you can't see anything the same way: neither the government, nor the people around you, nothing.

Little by little I found their offices. I had no money. I eventually dropped my courses. I had work as a lecturer until the end of 2008, but I decided to commit myself full-time, without really knowing what the future held, because I had to do something to help unborn children.

Nothing has changed since that day nearly 18 years ago.

We at QLC continue to fight in Quebec —against governments, in the courts, and against the prevailing spirit of the age — to make this province, and this country, safe again for unborn children.

In this season of Lent, we would be grateful if you would consider making a sacrificial donation to help us reach our fundraising goals. We are striving, with all our strength, to defend God’s little ones from the barbarity of abortion in Quebec and across Canada.

If you can, please walk alongside us in this mission by donating today.
