Update from the Quebec Life Coalition: Prayer Vigil and Our Fall Campaign
We're 7 days away from the end of our Fall 2024 fundraising campaign, and we've managed to raise close to 56% of our total. Thank you to everyone who donated. We need your help to continue defending faith, family and life, from conception to natural death. Thank you for your prayers and financial support.
I wanted to take a moment to update you on the important work we’ve been doing during this fall’s 40-day prayer vigil for the end of abortion, as well as share a critical update regarding our ongoing fundraising campaign.
The prayer vigil in Sherbrooke, QC, is now entering its second week. This is the fourth consecutive year we’ve held the vigil in this community, which began on Wednesday, September 25th. So far, we've seen real, tangible results from our efforts: we've been able to provide support to two expectant families and to a single mother of a newborn.
Let me share with you some of these encounters:
- On Sunday, our pregnancy support line (1-855-871-4442) received a call from a foreign university student whose spouse is expecting. He reached out to us, concerned about how they could access the necessary services to ensure a healthy pregnancy. We were able to direct him to a government-run program that helps pregnant women find medical services, including a physician. The relief in his voice was palpable—he and his wife now have hope for their growing family, thanks to your prayers and support.
- A few days later, while praying at our vigil location, I had a conversation with a man whose wife is pregnant with their second child. Though his wife is enrolled in a nutritional program for expectant mothers, he had medical concerns that hadn't been addressed. Once again, I recommended the provincial program that connects pregnant women with physicians and healthcare services. He was deeply appreciative of the information, which brought them one step closer to feeling secure about their baby's health.
- Lastly, I received a call from one of our collaborators who operates a pregnancy support centre. A young mother we had helped earlier this year, who gave birth in April, was in need of baby clothes, as her little one had outgrown everything. Our collaborator gathered four boxes of clothes, and with some coordination, we arranged for the clothes to be delivered to this mother. It’s amazing to witness how our network of support grows stronger, thanks to your prayers and contributions.
The vigil in Sherbrooke will continue until Sunday, November 3rd, and we are confident that with your continued prayers and involvement, we will reach even more families in need.
One Week Left for Our Fall Campaign: Help Us Reach Our Goal
As we move forward with our prayer vigils and other pro-life initiatives, we want to remind you that we have just one week left in our fall fundraising campaign. We still need $5,255 to reach our goal of $12,000 for this season.
Your support is absolutely essential for us to continue doing what we do—protecting faith, family, and life here in Quebec and beyond. Whether through vigils like the one in Sherbrooke, our pregnancy support services, or our educational outreach, your donations make it possible for us to help expectant families, single mothers, and individuals who need guidance and hope.
Please consider donating today to help us reach our goal and keep this vital work alive. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to building a culture of life in Quebec.
Thank you for your continued prayers, generosity, and support.
For Life,
Brian Jenkins
Vice-President and Outreach Coordinator

Can you pray and watch for one hour?
We're 10 days away from the end of our Fall 2024 fundraising campaign, and we've managed to raise close to 50% of our total. Thank you to everyone who donated. We need your help to continue defending faith, family and life, from conception to natural death. Thank you for your prayers and financial support.
I wanted to send you this quick email to remind you that the Life Chain will be held this Sunday, October 6, at the locations and times (normally 2pm-3pm) listed on our website.
There's nothing simpler, and more meaningful and effective, than the Life Chain to show that we don't agree with abortion, and that we're standing up to say “no” to the killing of unborn children. This October 6, thousands of pro-lifers all over North America and beyond will stand on the streets of their city, town, village, neighborhood, to pray for an hour, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm (there are exceptions, please check your local Chain) with signs to clearly show their disagreement with abortion.
A child participates in a Montreal Life Chain.
To date, we have a good 20 locations in Quebec, a big improvement on last year, when we had 11. Nevertheless, our goal for this year is 33 locations. So I strongly encourage you, if you don't have a Life Chain in your area, to sign up as a chain leader (by writing to us at [email protected] or simply by replying to this e-mail). We'll do everything we can to recruit other pro-lifers to join you.
Don't let the relative simplicity of this initiative make you think it won't be effective. On the contrary, this very simplicity is its strength: what could be easier than to put ourselves in prayer, for an hour of “vigil”, for the unborn children killed by the tens of thousands (100,000 in all in Canada) in our so-called “civilized” country? When the time comes to give an account to our Creator, don't let him say that “you couldn't watch for one hour”!
So watch, just one hour, for the unborn this Sunday, October 6, 2024. If you can't start a chain near you (by contacting us), you can join one already organized. The list of chains is here.
The 23 locations (to date) of the 2024 Life Chain -- our goal for this year is 33!
Please consider starting a Chain in your community by replying to this email. We'll provide you with all the signs you need, and we'll try to contact pro-lifers near you to join you. All you have to do is reply today. If, however, you can't start a new chain, please join an existing one on Sunday, October 6.
Actions like the Life Chain are only possible thanks to your participation and donations. We need your continued support to keep organizing and to keep growing the number of chains in Quebec. We set a goal of $12,000 for our fall fundraising campaign, and so far we've raised $5,573. With just under two weeks to go, we still have $6,427 to raise. Every dollar you give helps us fight for faith, family and life, from conception to natural death.
Thank you for your generosity and your prayers.
In Jesus Christ,
Georges Buscemi

Quebec government snubs Ottawa, plans to authorize advance euthanasia requests
The Quebec government plans to authorize advance euthanasia requests for people with serious illnesses, such as Alzheimer's, as early as this fall, even though the Canadian government has not amended the Criminal Code to allow such a thing.
On June 7, 2023, Quebec passed a law authorizing advance requests for euthanasia, but the law has not yet come into force. Now Quebec is talking about “moving forward”, citing a broad “consensus” among the Quebec population in the face of Ottawa's inertia on the issue.
It is to be feared that if Ottawa (all too happy, no doubt, to refrain from prohibiting in an area where it has itself had to temporarily step back) lets Quebec do as it did in 2015, other provinces will follow suit and override the Criminal Code, to the great detriment of vulnerable people. (Read our article about this development, here)

We held our annual corn roast last Saturday, despite a little rain. Like every year, we were delighted to meet our supporters and discuss a variety of topics with them.

In case you missed it, our colleague Arpad Nagy, director of political operations for Quebec Life Coalition, was in Hamilton participating in the Christian Heritage Party convention. At QLC, we're looking for ways to help this 100% pro-life party to make inroads in Quebec. Read Arpad's report here.

Read moreMore than 100 Canadian women injured by the abortion pill
The mainstream media probably won't tell you about the side effects of the abortion pill, the method increasingly used to kill unborn children. But side effects are happening right here in Canada. Pete Baklinski, Director of Communications for Campaign Life Coalition, investigated the effects of Mifegymiso (the name of the abortion protocol), which includes mifepristone and misoprostol, in the Government of Canada's adverse reaction database. Mifepristone is taken first: its purpose is to starve the unborn child and cause his death. Misoprostol comes next: it is used to induce labour in the woman and make her expel the dead body of her unborn child.
Pete Baklinski discovered that there had been over 100 reports of adverse reactions linked to the abortion pill, including one death. The vast majority of cases, says Mr Baklinski, are classified as serious, requiring hospitalisation, blood transfusions or resulting in disability or sequelae.
And the Trudeau Liberals are saying that access to abortion is inadequate!...

Read moreTrue Love, not "hate"
Under Justin Trudeau, "hate" is in the sights of the Canadian government more than ever. As proof, the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN) has received $440,000 from the Trudeau government to fight "hate," especially the "hate" of the "far right". And who are these horrible "hateful" people or entities? According to CAHN, they are, for example, Josh Alexander, Jordan Peterson, or Campaign Life Coalition, of which Campagne Québec-Vie / Quebec Life Coalition is a member. This categorization is rather strange. Unapologetically, we hate abortion because it causes irreparable harm to the unborn child and its mother, whom we love. Is it wrong, then, to hate an unjust act? For abortion advocates, abortion is not a wrong act, but a right, and to deny women this right would be an act of "hatred".
True love (which is the opposite of hate) means doing the objective good of others. So we fight abortion for the good of the unborn and their mothers, while those who defend abortion objectively harm the unborn and their mothers, even as they claim to "love" them...
Here's some Quebec Pro-Life News: there is a federal by-election being called in the Montreal-area Verdun riding. A pro-life Christian Heritage Party candidate will be running. Don't miss our interview with this candidate, whom we endorse! Make sure, also, to read on to discover more ways to promote a Culture of Life in Quebec and beyond. God bless.

South of the border, election fever is gripping many Americans, some of whom are even shooting presidential candidates... Thank God Trump is still alive, no doubt enhanced in the eyes of the electorate after this botched assassination attempt. Whom will voters choose: the bloody, fist-pumping hero or poor "Sleepy Joe"?
Unfortunately, the difference between the two candidates on abortion, mariage and other important issues is less than it used to be: while Joe Biden is still the unconditional champion of abortion, Trump now declares that he supports several exceptions to an abortion ban and that he will not place restrictions on the abortion pill - which is, however, an increasingly used means of abortion, especially to circumvent US state laws restricting abortion.
On the other hand, Trump has chosen Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate. The latter, a convert to Catholicism, claims to be "100% pro-life" but also supports exceptions to the abortion ban for "pragmatic" political reasons.
While our political class works to eke out electoral victories and seeks compromise, we have to work with the culture to fully protect faith, family and life, from conception to natural death. Here are some of the things we're doing to accomplish just that:
PRO-LIFE RESOURCE OF THE WEEK – Trudeau’s MAiD Service
In this short volume, David Cooke presents a concise history of euthanasia in Canada. He explains that the 2015 Supreme Court ruling in Carter vs. Canada marked a dangerous departure from centuries of legal and moral principles that protected human life. The subsequent Bill C-14 (in 2016) legalized what was once considered first-degree murder, making some humans “killable.”
Life Chain
The Life Chain is a peaceful, silent demonstration in which participants hold pro-life signs for one hour. Held in hundreds of cities on Sunday, October 6 from 2 to 3 p.m., this initiative is crucial to raising public awareness of the dignity of human life.
Our plan is to triple the number of Life Chains in Quebec. We aim to grow from 11 to 33 chains, increasing our presence and impact across the province.
Our Annual QLC Corn Roast
Our annual corn roast will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 3330 Rivier Street, Montreal (Joliette metro) starting at 12 PM. **Speeches delivered during the event will be in French**
- $10 per person, free for children under 12. Rain or shine.
- In addition to the delicious corn, participants will have the opportunity to visit our offices and attend an informal conference. To reserve your spot, contact us at (514) 344-2686 or [email protected].
Roe Canada documentary
We recently translated and dubbed the documentary "Roe Canada: Our Forefathers' Land in a Post-Roe World", which explores the potential impact of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in Canada. We invite you to watch it in English or in French.
I'm hoping you can join us at our events or use our resources to help build a Culture of Life in Quebec and beyond!
Yours for Life,

Another march next year
The Quebec City March for Life took place about ten days ago, and we're already planning next year's march. We will shortly be holding a meeting between the organisers and various participants to assess the good points as well as the various aspects that need to be improved. After a very successful first one, despite the difficulties and obstacles, we're planning to produce an even bigger and better one.
This week, in surprising news, after a clear success for right-wing parties in the European elections, Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has decided to dissolve the National Assembly! Whatever his reasons for doing so, or the hopes and fears that the next French government will engender, at least one good thing has come out of it: the dropping of the euthanasia bill that was due to be put for vote on June 18th (no doubt with a solid majority). That's always a plus.
Life Chain
The next Life Chain will take place on Sunday 6 October 2024, on a smaller scale than the march, but more local. The Life Chain takes place simultaneously across Canada and the world, and consists of a one-hour prayer event in a public square with placards bearing pro-life messages.
Mass for the unborn
A Mass for the unborn will be held on June 18th at 6 p.m. in St. Peter's Church in Cornwall, Ontario. Everyone is welcome.

All this is only possible thanks to your donations. We've launched a quick fundraising campaign to, among other things, organise a 2025 March that will be even bigger and better than the one we've just experienced. Our goal is to raise $10,000 in 2 weeks. We've so far collected 2,792$ and therefore we have 7,208$ left to raise. There are 8 days left. Please give generously today!

A wonderful March for Life!
What a splendid day! What a magnificent march! More than a thousand pro-lifers gathered in Quebec City on June 1st under a shining sun to demonstrate in the name of the unborn child. And all this despite the hostility and incivility of the pro-abortion counter-demonstrators... (For a fuller report on the march, see here.)
The joy was palpable as people arrived and gathered around waiting for the event to begin, getting to know each other, meeting up with friends.
A word must be said about the start of the day. Early in the morning, pro-abortionists had sprayed graffiti on the pavements and low walls surrounding the Fontaine de Tourny, saying: "My body, my choice". After a few pro-lifers added a little more, the message was very different!
Before the event got underway, counter-demonstrators arrived with drums, whistles, rattles and other noise-making objects, chanting slogans and making all the noise they could. In short, they were trying to spoil our event. Fortunately, the Quebec City police eventually separated the sheep from the goats and we started marching.
It was comforting to see the march proceed normally after the initial agitation, and there we saw just how many of us there were, along with the pro-lifers who arrived late.
I can tell you that the march did not go unnoticed in the streets of Quebec, with many motorists honking their horns happily as they passed, all the people seated on restaurant terraces, and others expressing their disapproval.
These two videos of the march will give you a fuller idea.
We ended the March for Life with moving testimonies from women who had undergone an abortion or had chosen life instead, and with a few speeches that had been postponed until the end.
Ah, and then there was the media coverage. Several media were present at the march and reported on it. But they didn't even present it in a neutral way. It was mostly pro-abortion testimonials and short pro-life quotes. The choice of photos also shows a certain amount of bad faith. The confrontation between pro-abortion and pro-life is emphasised, while the most positive part of the pro-life event is absent from the visual aspect. In short, the mainstream media are not our friends.
Finally, a big thank you to all the participants and our fifty+ volunteers. Many thanks to the speakers:
To Toni Di Paolo Lemay, devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and host of the event.
To Georges Buscemi, President and Spokesperson of Quebec Life Coalition and organizer of the March.
To Dr. Paul Saba, family physician in Montreal.
To Jean-Léon Laffitte, President of the Association des Parents Catholiques du Québec and representative of Ensemble pour la protection de nos enfants.
To Jean-François Denis from ThéoVox and co-organiser.
To Richard Décarie, founder of the Conservative Union Movement.
To Debbie Duval and Julia Bissonnette from Campaign Life Coalition.
To Father Marchand for his presence and opening prayer.
To Tanya Patry and Josée Lafontaine, mothers, inspiring witnesses to the choice of life in a time of distress.
To Alie Alive, an abortion survivor with a powerful and inspiring testimony.
To Lise Dufour, author of the book "J'ai avorté par peur, avec Lui, espérer encore".
To Art Lucier, founder of Canadian Firewall and Harvest Ministries. Last year, the event he was planning to organise at the Palais des congrès de Québec was cancelled by the Quebec government on the grounds that it was organised by pro-lifers. He is now suing the government.
To Isabelle Frédéric, a Christian woman who has had an abortion and wants to share her experience.
To Nancy Ménard, a Christian woman who has had an abortion and wants to share her experience.
To Sophie Archambault, Executive Director of Uni-T A Voice for Christian Values (UVVC).
To Georges Antonios for his closing prayer and remarks.
Many thanks also to ThéoVox for its help, and to the Campaign Life Coalition and Valorem constructions for their financial support.
See you next year!

Protecting children, before and after birth
Children, born and unborn, need to be protected from many dangers. So many unborn children are killed by abortion, without even having the chance to beg to be spared. Don't forget to announce your attendance at the march on our Facebook event page and to invite your friends.
Pro-abortion people sometimes accuse pro-lifers of being solely "pro-birth", by which they mean that pro-lifers are only interested in the fate of the child before birth and no longer care about it once it is born.
This is simply absurd.
As a pro-life movement that cares about children before and after birth, we also call on you to take part in the demonstration against the gender ideology being inculcated in schools, on 25 May, organised by Ensemble Pour Protéger Nos Enfants (EPPNE) (Together To Protect Our Children).

March for Life, National Networking and Happy Births!
We are thrilled to share with you the latest news and events from our organization.
Firstly, we're delighted to inform you that Georges Buscemi, president of Quebec Life Coalition, recently visited the Good News Chapel Baptist Church in Montreal to promote the March for Life in Quebec. His visit was a great success, and we also had the opportunity to visit the Montreal parishes of Saint-Monica, Notre-Dame-des-Neiges (thanks to a devoted sympathizer), and Corpus Christi Parish in Senneville. We shared valuable moments with these communities, further strengthening our commitment to life.
(Included below are some photos from Georges' visit to GNC.)
Additionally, our colleague Arpad Nagy attended the Canada Strong and Free conference to establish connections with conservatives and life advocates from across the country, including New Brunswick Premier Blain Higgs. This opportunity allowed us to strengthen our alliances and expand our network to promote the culture of life throughout Canada.
Arpad with the founder of the Danube Institute, John O'Sullivan.
Regarding our Pregnant and Worried (in French, Enceinte et inquiète) pregnancy help service, we have good news to share. Two of the seven women we support have recently given birth to their children: one to twins and the other to a baby boy. A touching anecdote occurred during the birth of the first twin: he came into the world while one of our volunteers was praying with the mother, during a quiet moment when no medical attendant was in the room. We continue to support and accompany the five other women awaiting the arrival of their babies, including one who feels ambivalent. Our colleague Brian will meet her on Friday to offer our support and assistance.
Additionally, we would like to inform you of the following events related to the promotion of life:
-
The March for Life in Ottawa will take place on May 9th on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario. This march is an important opportunity for Canadians to come together and defend life at all its stages. We strongly encourage everyone who can to participate and testify to the importance of protecting human life.
-
We are also saddened by the recent death of Normand Meunier, a victim of severe medical negligence that led him to choose euthanasia. This tragedy underscores the importance of defending the dignity of every person, especially the most vulnerable among us.
-
Finally, we applaud the courage and commitment of Michael Del Grande in defending life. His initiative to display the pro-life flag in all Catholic schools in Toronto is an inspiring example of leadership and determination.
We thank you for your continued support of Quebec Life Coalition, and we encourage you to continue working with us to promote a culture of life in our society.
Best regards,
--Campagne Québec-Vie
p.s. Thank you for helping us promote the very first March for Life in Quebec on June 1st, 2024. Most importantly, be with us on that day!
