The Life Chain took place once again in Quebec this year, on October 5th. With the help of local organizers, we were able to organize nearly thirty chains across Quebec — an increase of nearly threefold in two years!

By standing in public and proudly displaying our support for the unborn child, we show that it is possible to be pro-life without shame and we encourage our fellow citizens to express opinions that they may not even dare to mention. Through our prayers, we draw God's blessing on this great work of charity, which is to defend those who are defenseless.

The tragic death of Charlie Kirk — a young American Christian and pro-life influencer – has sent shockwaves around the globe. Murdered on a university campus for his beliefs, he who stood up for life, marriage, and faith, Charlie leaves behind a powerful legacy.

Thousands gathered for his national funeral in Arizona. His widow, Erika, shared a moving testimony of faith and forgiveness. Since Charlie’s passing, people have started praying again, reading the Bible, going back to church — could this be the beginning of a spiritual revival?

Even here in Canada, folks have come together to honour his memory. All over the world, people are rediscovering the Christian faith thanks to Charlie’s message.

Charlie dreamed of this kind of awakening. He dedicated his life to inspiring young people to embrace prayer, family, and the defence of life. Now it’s our turn to carry the torch.

In the 24th edition of its Model List of Essential Medicines, published on September 5th, the World Health Organization included for the first time a section on abortion drugs, including mifepristone and misoprostol, both of which are used in the process known as “abortion pill.” This shows how low the WHO has sunk, classifying the killing of unborn children (or abortion) as an essential health service.

It is the same abortion pill that was at the origin of the death of a 19-year-old Canadian woman, Rhenna Laderoute, whose tragedy was recently reported in The Globe and Mail. Rheanna suffered an infection and died of sepsis within ten days after taking the abortion pill — in an absurd scenario where, despite three visits to the hospital, the health care system failed to recognize and adequately treat her deteriorating condition, leading to the terrible fate we have described. Even more absurd is the negligence of the same healthcare system that so lightly prescribes a product whose danger of sepsis is even listed on the packaging.

Thus, the abortion pill, intended to kill only one life, that of the unborn child, sometimes takes two at once...

It is necessary that a voice, or even multiple voices, be heard to warn women not only that abortion kills an innocent human being, but also of the danger to their own lives that comes with abortion, or even the danger of mental health problems associated with abortion.

We are dedicated to being that voice in Quebec, where very few speak out in favor of the unborn child. That is why we invite you to give generously to our fall fundraising campaign. Your donations not only allow us to be that voice, but also to increase our action for the culture of life. We have received $2,500 so far, and we need another $17,500 to reach our goal of $20,000. Secularism, according to our beloved Quebec government, is one of Quebec's "fundamental values". One might well ask how secularism is a foundation of Quebec, since it played no part in the founding or continuation of Quebec. What we expect from a foundation is that it played a part in the founding of the nation and that it continues to play a permanent role in maintaining the nation. Coming in the wake of the Quiet Revolution and its rejection of Catholicism, secularism has instead contributed to the disappearance of the French-Canadian Catholic people, who have become, in part, a people of unbelieving and infertile Quebeckers. Secularism, and the accompanying delusional feminism (which, by the way, suits men who want to have fun without having children), is more a factor in Quebec's decline and disappearance than one of its fundamental values. The current falling birth rate is proof of this.

The report of the Committee to Study Respect for the Principles of the State Secularism Act and Religious Influences, entitled "For an Even More Coherent Quebec Secularism: Assessment and Perspectives , August 2025", recommends, among other things, that the Quebec government makes public prayers subject to municipal control, withdraws all public subsidies from religious and pro-life organisations, and eliminates funding for private religious schools.

In response to this state atheism, which is increasingly showing its face behind the mask of secularism, we invite Quebeckers and Canadians to show that Christians praying in public is a fundamental value of Quebec and Canada by participating in the "Québec prie" and the "Canada Prays" initiatives.

Created in 2022 as part of a global movement, this initiative was intended as a response to the closure of churches during lockdown and the exclusion of some Christians from places of worship. (Imagine if we were once again forbidden to pray inside churches and public prayer was banned, where would we pray?) With astonishing vitality, Le Québec prie has continued to exist ever since. As a new threat to Christianity in Quebec rears its head, we invite you to join one of these prayer groups, which meet every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Another good opportunity to show that Quebec and Canada are still Christian would be to take part in the Life Chain, which will take place on Sunday, October 5th. Every Wednesday at 6 pm, Christians across Quebec are invited to gather in groups throughout the province to pray the Rosary publicly. We will not be driven from the public square like lepers!

Life Chain

The Life Chain is a peaceful, silent demonstration in which participants hold pro-life signs for one hour. Held in hundreds of cities on Sunday, October 5th from 2 to 3 p.m., this initiative is crucial to raising public awareness of the dignity of human life.

Finally, it rained after a long dry period. Thanks to God, it is refreshing to see nature regaining its green color!

The Arthabaska-L'Érable by-election resulted in a comfortable victory for the PQ, followed closely by Éric Duhaime's PCQ, while the CAQ trailed far behind — a dramatic reversal in the CAQ stronghold. The population's disappointment with the ruling party is undoubtedly behind much of the shift in votes from the CAQ to the PQ and the PCQ. But how can we explain the collapse of the other parties? Perhaps we should see this as a rallying around the PQ to block the ‘right’ embodied by Éric Duhaime (no doubt despite himself), a rallying similar to that which took place around Mark Carney in the last federal election, not only to combat the American threat, but also to counter the Conservative Pierre Poilievre, accused of Trumpism by the mainstream media.

That said, whether it is the CAQ or the PQ that governs Quebec after the next general election, what difference does it make for unborn children and those who defend them?

I would like to commend the efforts of our colleague Arpad Nagy, who ran as an independent candidate in this election campaign to bring the pro-life message to the public arena. Here is a comment left by a voter under one of Mr. Nagy's Facebook posts, which I believe will help us reflect on the merits of his approach: "Congratulations on your candidacy! Thanks to you, I was able to do my duty as a good citizen, because a committed Catholic was running in my region! Thank you, and may the Lord protect and keep you!"

I invite you to sign our petition to the Quebec Minister of the Status of Women and the Minister of Health regarding the post-abortion trauma experienced by a large number of women, so that their ministries will recognise this reality and put in place a support programme for women who have been hurt by abortion. Such recognition could be the beginning of a more in-depth reflection on what abortion itself is. We have compiled the results of several scientific studies on the effects of abortion in a report to support the petition.

In addition to this petition, Campagne Québec-Vie invites you to participate in various pro-life events and actions that will take place this summer and during the autumn season: corn roast, Life Chain and 40 Days for Life.

Corn Roast — August 23rd

This annual event is a golden opportunity for pro-life advocates to gather, discuss, and get to know each other better. This year, we will have Philippe Letellier-Martel from Action Vitale as our guest speaker. This young pro-life activist has set up a YouTube channel with a colleague where he promotes pro-life and Christian apologetics. He also takes to the streets to ask passers-by for their opinions on abortion in order to open their eyes to this devastating scourge. The corn roast will be held on 23 August at the CQV offices at 3330 Rivier Street, Montreal.

Life Chain — October 5th

The Life Chain is a pro-life prayer and demonstration event that takes place for one hour, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., each year to bear witness to the sanctity of human life. For one hour, participants stand along a designated street holding signs with pro-life messages such as "Abortion kills children" and "Abortion hurts women". This event took place in more than 350 locations across Canada in 2024, including about 20 in Quebec. Such widespread participation is only possible thanks to the organisation of the chain by local people across Canada. CQV will hold a chain in Montreal along Décarie Boulevard, near the intersection with Jean-Talon Street and the Namur metro station. More details to come.

40 Days for Life — September 24th-November 2nd

The 40 Days for Life are similar in some ways to the Life Chain, but much longer. It consists of 40 days and 12 hours per day of sidewalk vigils, usually in the vicinity of an abortion clinic, to witness on behalf of the unborn child to passers-by and to offer help to women who are considering aborting their babies. The 40 Days begins on September 24th and ends on November 2nd. More details to come.

The recent decision of the Superior Court of Quebec confirming the bubble zones surrounding places where abortion is practiced is another sign of the moral state of Quebec: according to Quebec justice and state, it is prejudicial that pro-life offers help close to the abortion centres—as if it might be prejudicial to respectfully suggest not to abort one’s child.

Another sign of Quebec’s moral decadence, which began with the Quiet Revolution, is the treatment of the American Christian singer who came on a musical tour to evangelize Canada. Certainly, the wave of cancellation that Sean Feucht suffered because he is pro-life and opposed to LGBT ideology does not only concern Quebec, but the hostility shown towards him was very particular during his visit to Montreal.

Thus, not only is abortion officially promoted, but the expression of pro-life opinions, or even the performance of pro-life people, are censored, even prohibited.

Unfortunately for Quebec, the path it has taken, that of the culture of death, can only lead to its disappearance. Many of our opponents do not understand that we are not working against them, but in their interest.

Quebec, instead of returning to common sense, rejects the warnings given to it and sinks further, if possible, into the rejection of God and morality.

Even if saving Quebec seems impossible in human terms, we will continue to work, even if it was only to save the few souls that we can reach.

Moreover, the message we convey is addressed to anyone who wants to hear it, even if the Quebec we know were to disappear, what has been sown will not fail to bear fruit.

One can also hope that God will perform a miracle and convert hardened hearts. In any case, we will continue our work.

Have you heard about this demonstration which took place on July 20 in front of the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal, to defend the "deep and common meaning of this space" in response to the islamic street prayers that are regularly held in front of the basilica? Unfortunately, the organizers of the demonstration called on the government to ban all public prayers, including consequently those held by Christians. It is difficult to see how one can defend the "deep and common meaning" of such an iconic place by targeting indirectly the Catholicism that makes its essence.

The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) was placed under supervision of the Ontario government because of its significant deficit. One can certainly throw into the balance of the deficit the sum of one or two million that the TCDSB advisors used to persecute in court their colleague Michael Del Grande, who opposed pro-abortion propaganda and LGBT indoctrination within the school program of the commission.

I put here some contact details of our colleague Arpad Nagy who is running – on his own initiative and at his own expense – as an independent in the provincial by-election in Arthabaska, in order to bring the pro-life speech into the public square. A recent Pew Research Institute study of the American population reveals that young people in their twenties and thirties are less inclined to have children than in previous decades. So, “The total number of children that women and men ages 20 to 39 planned to have, on average, dropped from 2.3 in 2012 to 1.8 in 2023. Those numbers remained stable from 2002 to 2012”, writes the institute. Of the various reasons given for this lack of inclination to have children, the economic one dominates, and the remedies suggested by those questioned focus mainly on the monetary factor. Money is certainly not an insignificant factor in the plan to start a family, but it is not everything. We only have to look at Russia, where the government is trying, apparently without much success, to reverse the decline in the birth rate by providing aid to families, or Hungary, which has increased the number of tax benefits for families, but is not having great success.

So what's the problem? And what is the solution? The answer to this question also concerns Quebec, which, despite its special characteristics, is also suffering from a serious decline in its natural demography - just like the rest of the West, in fact. It should be noted that at the beginning of the last century, when Quebec had so many children, living conditions were much harsher than they are now, and this did not prevent families from having up to a dozen children or more. It's true that children were seen as a help from an early age. Could the slow decline in Quebec's birth rate over the last century, before reaching today's lows, be partly due to the loss of this “necessity” in a society whose social supports have multiplied to the point we know today? Perhaps in part.

The Quiet Revolution, with its train of moral decadence, certainly dealt a terrible blow to the Quebec birth rate, and I don't think it would be too much to recommend teaching the younger generations to the benefits of the Christian morality that was the framework of the French-Canadian family, teaching them to love their ancestors and the heritage they left them, and educating them about the principles of natural law. A cultural and religious revival is undoubtedly necessary before we can hope for any kind of natal turnaround. Shame on the current government, which is indoctrinating children more to change "gender" than to start a real family!...

Vigil 365

The Vigil 365 is a prayer vigil where, every day for one or two hours, pro-lifers pray in a public place at a certain distance from an abortuary for the end of abortion.

I hope you had a merry St John's Day with your family and friends. St. John the Baptist is particularly celebrated in Quebec because St. Pius X gave him to the French Canadians as their patron saint. Surely, St. Pius X's gift of such a guide was priceless. May Saint John the Baptist, forerunner of Christ, give us the courage to speak the truth at all times and in all places and to defend the family with fervour, as he died a martyr for defending the sanctity of marriage.

A recent report published by Liberty Counsel Action estimates that around 40 tonnes of remains of aborted foetuses and abortifacients end up in American water every year. When a woman takes the "abortion pill" (which is in two parts), she flushes her aborted baby down the toilet. But wastewater filtration systems are not designed to deal with chemicals such as mifepristone or misoprostol, which are used in the abortion pill. This chemical waste is probably to have an effect on the fertility of people who drink city water. This is a source of pollution in addition to that from hormonal contraception, which also ends up in the sewage system. The abortion pill is an increasingly common method of abortion.

On a positive note, Quebec Public Security Minister François Bonnardel has announced that inmates of provincial prisons will be imprisoned in male or female facilities according to their "anatomical sex". However, transgender people who have undergone vaginoplasty (how horrible!), and are therefore castrated, will be incarcerated in women's prisons. It's a much better situation, nevertheless, than the previous one, where men claiming to be women could be locked up with women while retaining all their male attributes.

One might have thought (in theory, at least) that the most zealous supporters of "choice" (i.e. abortion) would be the most ardent defenders of all choices, including those they don't like. Unfortunately, such a coherent mindset does not seem to be found among activists of the type motivated enough to take to the streets to prevent a peaceful pro-life demonstration (the enemies of “choice”), thereby denying their opponents the choice to criticise abortion freely. They are not the ones we will see coming up to us to put their hand on our shoulder and say "I support your choice, whatever it is!" This call for universal "choice" is in fact just a pretext for defending an indefensible practice: abortion. Or perhaps it's because they themselves recognise that not all choices are legitimate, in which case...

We pro-lifers agree that women have the choice of whether or not to have children, but we differ on the moment of that choice. The choice to have children should be made before conception, not after!

Indeed, there is a choice to be made, carefully and freely. However, what pro-abortionists are really calling for is for sexuality to be without responsability and to be able to reject the consequences of their actions. It's a strange world where pleasure takes precedence over respect for life...

I was talking about the choice to freely express one's opposition to abortion. It's one thing for a bunch of inconsistent hooligans to try to bully this choice, but for the authorities to remain almost passive in the face of such behaviour crosses the line. It is absurd that the authorities did nothing to guarantee the security of our banquet at the Delta hotel, which had to be cancelled because of threats from supporters of the "choice".

This is why we will be calling on the authorities about their passive attitude so that we can receive protection equal to that guaranteed to other citizens. Otherwise, the freedom of expression that our society prides itself on is nothing but a dead letter.
