Shine Your Light

Have you ever considered praying in public? Would you find doing so purposeful or pointless?

A small digression

By the time you receive this newsletter, we will have begun our twice-annual prayer vigil for the end of abortion.

On Wednesday, September 25, 40 Days for Life begins.

The Quebec Life Coalition has carried on continuously over the past eleven years prayer vigils outside abortion facilities in spite of opposition coming from some high civic quarters.

First came an court ordered injunction (March 2015) and then a provincial law (December 2016), both restricting us from getting to within 50 meters of abortion facilities.

Despite these hardships, both of these actions are visible signs that we are having an impact, that our prayers and our presence in the public space are being noticed, moving persons for good and for ill.

Other Signs

Our prayers and our presence are also changing hearts and minds.

First, since the beginning of the prayer vigils worldwide close to two hundred abortion facility workers have left their work to seek work elsewhere.

Second over 16,000 children have been spared the horrific death from abortion since the inception of the 40 Days for Life prayer vigils in 2003. That is, the hearts of mothers and fathers were affected on arriving at the abortion facility by seeing men and women praying on the sidewalk, encouraging them to care for their unborn child.

So, “Have you ever considered praying in public? Would you find doing so purposeful or pointless?”

Even one person can make an impact.

40 Days for Life co-founder David Bereit says that he has heard first hand from those who have left the abortion industry that abortion business drops significantly when there is a pro-life presence out on the sidewalk. If one or two persons are praying, there is between a ten and twenty percent drop in the abortion business.

We need to turn again to prayer to impact these adverse conditions and to change hearts.

So, for forty consecutive days until Sunday, November 3, 2019, consider joining me in bringing the pro-life message to pedestrians and motorists in the downtown core of Montreal, at the intersection of St-Catherine and Berri streets, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

As Our Lord puts it: “Nobody lights a lamp, to hide it away in a jar or under a bed; it is put on a lamp-stand, so that all who come into the house can see its light.” (Luke 8:16)

Let us gather in prayer, asking God that the women and men tempted to abortion may be lovingly helped to protect the precious gift of life that they have been given.

Between September 25 and November 2, 2019, allow your lamp to shine brightly for all to see.

Yours in Christ Jesus
